Bristol 1903 importer/exporter/brewer?
23/07/2008 by cottage.
Hi, I’ve found fragments of pottery next to our Devon cottage bearing the letters ***N (the last letter only of a word) Read, and “***orter of” “& Spirits” along with the number “03″ which looks as if it was probably 4 digits, therefore I guess 1903. There is also an oval with the words PRICE and BRISTOL curving around the inside of the oval with the letter G between them. All these embossed into the fragment of pitcher/pot/urn. As I am trying to trace the history of the 1850 (approx) cottage, and ideas as to the name, souce or contents of the pot most welcome! Thanks folks. - Tony.

Looking for information on W.H. Brown, Craigie Brewery, Dundee
23/07/2008 by jimhandy.
About 10 years ago I aquired these two bottles from a thrift store. In the following 10 years I havnt been able to dig up much on them. I would like some help on their value ( if any) and their age. Also any History on the brewery would be great. They are Embossed with the name W.H. Brown, Craigie Brewery, Dundee. They are blob tops with a wire and porcelin cap. The paper label say’s Guinness extra stout, Dublin. Thanks much, Jim…

Hi Folks, My first visit with a query for you all.
I have a photo which includes my grandfather with a brewery wagon, I think in the 1920’s. I have no idea where it might be but the family lived in Goole and Doncaster Yorkshire at some time.
Is there any chance that someone recognises the location please.

P&R Brewery, Bristol?
23/07/2008 by falconian.
I am writing to you from the village of Bonza Bay, north east of the port of East London in South Africa.
This morning, whilst scratching amongst the rock pools for historical artifacts (at least three sailing vessels ran aground or were wrecked in this immediate vicinity during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries) a colleague and I found the bottom half of an ancient beer bottle, bearing a raised inscription on the base that reads P&R Bristol. Does anyone have any idea of the origins of the bottle? We are aware that an iron- or steel-hulled vessel, the Jane Davie (apparently of British origin) sunk in the vicinity sometime in the 1880’s. There is very little in the available historical records about the ship itself, and the bottle may provide a clue to its origin. Does anyone know whether the ship has any connection to Bristol?
