The area covered by the gazetteer is that of the present county of Somerset, and thus excludes the area which is now part of Bath and North-East Somerset. The entries give a brief history of the brewery and if known, more details such as the brewery builders and engineers, the beers brewed, pubs owned, area served and an indication of the brewery size. Reference sources are given for each entry. A good supply of black & white photos illustrates the text.
