Lakeland Brewing Co
I am confused by the history of brewing at the Masons Arms, Cartmel, Cumbria and wonder if someone could clarify it for me.
The Century of British Brewers says the Strawberry Bank Brewery started there 1990 and finished 2002. A 2000 CAMRA GBG I have says Strawberry Bank is the new name for the brewery at the pub as Lakeland have moved out, to Kendal. The same Century book shows the Lakeland Brewing Co in Kendal 1998 - 2000.
I have a picture of the Mason’s Arms from May 1995 in which there is a sign saying ‘Home of the Lakeland Brewing Company’.
So can anyone clarify the history of brewing at the Mason’s Arms please? My interest was only aroused by my old photo!

This has been gleaned from local knowledge:
A four barrel plant first established in an outbuilding at the back of the Mason’s Arms in 1990. Moved to new premises in Kendal in May 1997. The original plant remained at the pub and continued brewing for a short time as Strawberry Bank brewery. Production ceased at the Kendal plant in 1998 with beers being contract brewed at Burton Bridge brewery until around 2000. Brewing also finally ceased at the pub around the same time.

Thanks for that - it makes alot of sense, but the Century book has the dates wrong for the Lakeland Brewing Co. and for Strawberry Bank. How is this passed on such that any subsequent edition of the book has the correct info?
Thanks again for the info - enjoiyed the web site with the picture of Case’s Brewery!!
