Worksop and Retford Brewery

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

Dave Pickersgill has dropped me a line on their recent talk, and a planned follow up –

Since my last email, we had a successful session at Bassetlaw Museum last Saturday. We were billed to provide a one hour talk on the Worksop and Retford Brewery – we started at 13;30, finished talking at 14:30, but then the questions and comments came – we left the building at 15:20 after a really good session! -so much so, that we are doing a ‘show and tell’ follow-up in July. There is obviously a lot of archive material, memories and anecdotes out there. We want to ensure that it is not forgotten.

Saturday 19th July 10.30 – 12.30; Bassetlaw Museum, Retford, free entry

Hogs Back Brewery’s new Hop Ground

Friday, May 16th, 2014

On Monday I  joined a number of other volunteers and Hogs back staff for a jolly day planting hops opposite the brewery in Tongham – a new experience for most of us

The group included celebrated beer journalists, Martyn Cornell and Roger Protz, as well as experts such as Dr Peter Darby of Wye Hops, Bill Biddell of the only other Surrey hop grower, Hampton Estates, and brewer Ed Wray whos article on the Farnham White Bine Hop appeared in ‘Brewery History’ recently

Martyn has written the day up beautifully on his blog so I won’t try and do the same, but do have a look if you have time-

I look forward to tasting the fruits of our labour in the fullness of time

BHS AGM Weekend

Friday, May 16th, 2014

What a fantastic AGM weekend in Cardiff

Thanks to Chris for all his hard work making the arrangements, to everyone who turned up and especially to all of our hosts – at Kingstone Brewery, Tintern; AB-Inbev’s Magor Brewery; Otley and SA Brain, who hosted the AGM

What a variety of breweries, each very interesting in its own right and especially when combined and compared over the few days

We look forward to the next episode in the BHS visit programme
